Network disk as a physical hard drive

Hello !

I have such a task:
Make a WebDAV network disk as a physical disk on a computer, that it was successfully defined in the BackBlaze system and data on the storage server were copied from it.
Netdrive allows this to do this, but the data is not copied from such a disk, or they will not see BlackBlaze at all.

Question: Is this really done?

Hello andreishar,

Thank you for your question.

While I haven’t tested this exact setup myself, I believe it should be possible. A similar example would be using Cloud Storage with NetDrive to make it appear as a local disk and connecting it to PLEX, as described in this guide: Using NetDrive with PLEX.

Since this seems to be a similar case, I think it could work for you as well.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.

Best regards,

Thank you for the answer. But in the proposed example, the connection goes as a network disk. In this form, the application from BackBlaze does not see the comedy discs, it sees only local wheels.
I need to turn the network disk into a local one. Netdrive can do this, but it doesn’t seem to work to the end, it works somehow in its own way. It is necessary that the network disk be like a local disk with a NFTS file system. This allows you to make the Stable CloudDrive program. I managed to achieve the desired result using two Netdrive and Stable Clouddrive programs. But I wanted a similar effect using one program, Netdrive

Dear andreishar,

In NetDrive, you can configure a Drive Item as either a local drive or a network drive. As an example, I have attached screenshots showing how to create a Drive Item using the Backblaze B2 protocol as both a Local Drive and a Network Drive.

Or do you mean that even when you set the Drive Item as a Local Drive, Backblaze B2 still recognizes it as a Network Drive?

Please clarify so that we can better assist you.

Best regards,

I understand that. In the example given, the b2 cloud storage tariff is used, where it depends on the volume and traffic, and can gradually turn into an unaffordable amount. I want to use the Computer Backup tariff, where the fee is only $9 and you get unlimited data storage and traffic. My task is to profitably use the services, using Netdrive and webdav to create a local disk that would be successfully accepted by the Backblaze program. Try doing it yourself.

Dear andreishar,

I tested using Backblaze Computer Backup, and here’s what I found:

To perform a backup using Backblaze Computer Backup, a folder named ‘.bzol’ must be created. However, when WebDAV is mounted to the root directory, it is not possible to create the ‘.bzol’ folder (as shown in the screenshot below). This occurs because NAS systems typically prevent the creation of folders at the root level, so it is not possible to create a folder freely at the top level of the NAS.

The solution is to set the Remote Path to a subfolder, not the root, when creating the Drive Item in NetDrive. By mounting it as a local drive in this way, you should see that Backblaze Computer Backup can successfully create the ‘.bzol’ folder (as shown in the screenshot below).

Please refer to the attached screenshot for further details.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Here is the most important thing that is presented in the screenshot, the disk is not determined in the BackBlaze system. what happens to me when I create a disk

This is unlikely to help, I think. Here’s the matter is something else, but what is not clear.

Dear andreishar,

Currently, testing the upload to the D drive on this PC is taking more time than expected, so I will try running the test again on another PC. I will inform you of the results as soon as the testing is complete.

Thank you for your patience, and we are working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

Best regards.

Okay, I will wait

Dear andreishar,

I conducted the following test:

I created a drive item in NetDrive and connected it as a local disk (D: drive).

Then, I downloaded and installed the Backblaze Backup software. The Backblaze Backup program automatically recognized both the C: and D: drives and successfully initiated the backup process. I have attached a screenshot of the results.

This demonstrates that it is possible to create a local disk using NetDrive and perform a backup with Backblaze.

Thank you.

Hello, tsjeong!

Yes, with local servers, everything is ok, I also tested it.
But with outside servers, glitches, in particular, I use the Opendrive.com service according to the Webdav protocol, I’m struggling with it, I try again on the new version of Netdrive (3.18.1111), I put it today, I’ll see it or not.

local_ip

Backblaze downloaded, via Webdav.
But for some reason, the Netdrive program itself began to issue an error, this is suspended loading

nd3svc.log|attachment (4.2 MB)
ndagent.log (1015.3 KB)

I rolled into the previous version of Netdrive 3.17.960, errors do not appear. WEBDAV downloads to BackBlaze are stable, which is surprising, for some reason it did not go on this version before.
Winfsp 2024 Beta has been installed.

Dear andreishar,

I’m glad to hear that your issue has been resolved! However, it’s interesting because the 3.17 version uses CBFS, not WinFSP. If the problem occurs again, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Best regards.

Hello tsjeong !

I also noticed this, when installing the old version, WinfSP was not installed. But I left it, come in handy for RClone.
But what about the appearance of errors on the new version?
For what reason do they appear?

Dear andreishar,

I have reviewed the logs you provided but could not find a clear cause for the crashes at this time. I will continue testing and will update you once I have more information.

Apologies for the inconvenience, and I will get back to you soon.

Thank you.
